Papain
Papain is an enzyme that is commonly found in papaya fruits. It belongs to a group of enzymes known as proteases, which are enzymes that break down proteins into smaller peptides or amino acids.
Papain promotes digestion precisely by breaking down the proteins in the diet. This facilitates the digestive process and the absorption of nutrients. It has anti-inflammatory properties and reduces inflammation. This is useful in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis or injuries with swelling.
Due to its enzymatic properties, papain promotes faster healing of wounds and burns. It acts as an exfoliant, helping to remove dead tissue (e.g. skin cells) and stimulating the regeneration of new cells. Which leads to smoother and healthier skin. Papain also helps even skin tone and reduce the appearance of pigment spots.
In addition, papain is also used in the treatment of inflammation and pain, especially in the case of sore throats or sinuses. Papain also helps to reduce the inflammatory response in the body and thus relieve pain.
